INSTRUCTIONS: Typing an entry in Punjabi

To make an entry in Punjabi, use this transliteration tool.

Note: The transliteration tool cannot currently generate tippi characters, so please follow the instructions below:

  1. Open the umichpunjabi blog in View mode. You have it open if you are reading this!
  2. In a new window, open the Type Pad Punjabi transliteration tool and using phonetic input, type your text.
  3. When you need a tippi character, copy and paste the tippi characters from the list in the left margin of the umichpunjabi blog and paste them into the transliteration tool.
  4. Continue typing your text in the transliteration tool. When you are ready, copy and paste the text from the transliteration tool into a New Post in the umichpunjabi blog (in Author mode).
Another Note: You can also use a native Punjabi input (i.e., built into the operating system) on the computers at the LRC, and on your computer if it has one.
